TAJ ECONOMIC ZONE
Fourteen Special Econimc Zones (SEZ) are being set up across the country, one each in 14 states, which will focus on the industrial and infrastructure development of the country.
Four SEZ are being developed in Uttar Pradesh as part of this programme to accelerate the economic development of the state, particulartly with regard to export oriented industries, rural industries and achieving better connectivity through new roads, railway and airports.
The Taj Economic Zone, being developed on the Eastern bank of Yamuna, will include an expressway, new roads and brigdes, a container depot connectivity to Noida and Greater Noida with Metro and other rail systems and an international airport to expedite the industrial development of the area including Noida and Greater Noida.
World Bank has agreed to assist the development of TEZ in Western UP with
Rs. 2600/- crores, which will include a 500 metre wide 8 lane expressway from Noida to Agra along the Eastern Bank of Yamuna .
The SEZ will include an IT city, bio-technology city, shopping maills, a permannent industial display and exhibition centre, banks with foreign exchange facility custom clearance, post offices, an International Airport, Railway connectivity and cold storage for fruits and vegetables.
