Message from the COAS
I have been a PATRON OF AWHO now for more than 2½
years, and have seen the functioning of the Organisation very
closely. AWHO has over the years grown and improved considerably
and ranks today amongst the reputed construction agencies
in the country.
When our JCOs and Jawans are posted to field areas, there
families live mostly in villages which have little or no access
to good medical and educational facilities. I had therefore
asked AWHO to formulate a scheme specifically for JCOs and
Jawans, whereby they could be provided reasonably comfortable
and affordable houses near to Cantonments, to enable their
families to easily access such facilities. It is in this context
that the Jai Jawan Awas Yojnas have been started and have
become very popular with our JCOs & ORs. Construction
has commenced under three schemes and another four schemes
are in the pipeline. I am certain that more and more such
projects will be taken up by AWHO in the coming years. I have
personally met the Chief Ministers of some of the States where
these projects are being proposed and have been assured of
land being available for them.
I convey my good wishes and greetings to the Adjutant General
and to the AWHO which, over the years, has been rendering
yeoman service to Army personnel. I have no doubt that the
Organisation will continue its commendable work in times to
come and provide greater levels of satisfaction to our soldiers.
